Business Brief

A Portland business will be recognized Monday as the first manufacturer in Maine to use a privately owned wind turbine to generate electricity, city officials said Friday.
Paradigm Window Solutions on Riverside Industrial Parkway will unveil a wind turbine that`s expected to generate up to 800 kilowatt hours a month. The event will start at 2 p.m. and include state and local dignitaries, such as Mayor Edward Suslovic.
The turbine, which will be visible from the Maine Turnpike, will save about $850 a year in electricity costs. It will reduce the demand for electricity from traditional power plants, which release greenhouse gases.
Paradigm produces only Energy Star-rated products and recycles all of its manufacturing waste.
